Sarip Tambak Oso on the Lunar New Year Stage: When Chinese and Javanese Traditions Embrace
The spirit of Lunar New Year 2026 filled the hall of Taman Harapan School in Malang as students from elementary, junior high, and senior high levels came together to celebrate Imlek 2577 Kongzili (18/02) in a vibrant and colorful event. The auditorium was decorated in shades of red, adorned with lanterns and cherry blossom ornaments that enhanced the joyful atmosphere.
The celebration opened with an angklung musical performance by the students. The harmonious sounds of bamboo instruments brought a distinctive Indonesian touch to the Lunar New Year festivity. The soft yet dynamic rhythm immediately drew warm applause from parents and invited guests.
The excitement continued with a captivating Tari Remo performance presented by Grade XII students. With firm footwork, energetic movements, and expressive gestures, the dancers showcased the dynamic spirit of East Javanese culture. Their traditional costumes and lively musical accompaniment added depth and color to the stage, highlighting Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage in harmony with the Imlek celebration.
The highlight of the event was the spectacular barongsai performance. Accompanied by resounding drumbeats, the agile lion dancers captivated the entire audience. The colorful lions leaped, bowed, and moved gracefully, symbolizing prosperity and good fortune for the new year.
Equally impressive was the ludruk drama titled “Sarip Tambak Oso,” performed by Grade XII students. The play combined humor, engaging dialogue, and meaningful moral messages about courage and life values, earning enthusiastic appreciation from the audience.
Parents showed tremendous support, filling the hall until the very end. The event was also broadcast via live streaming, allowing extended family members to watch from various locations.
More than just a celebration, Lunar New Year 2026 at Taman Harapan School became a stage of cultural harmony, creativity, and togetherness.
